Mayureswar Wildlife Sanctuary
Mayureswar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Tehsil Baramati in Pune district in Maharashtra, India. It is 72 Km from Pune and 35 Km from Daund.
Flora and Fauna:
The sanctuary contains deciduous forest with interspersed grasslands. Main species of plants present at the sanctuary include Acacia catechu (Khair), Acacia sp (Hivar), Dalbergia latifolia (Sisoo), Ziziphus mauritiana (Bor), Carissa opasa, Alysicarpus bupleurifolius, Cyathocline purpurea, Eriocauion diane, Merremia marginata, Cucumis melo, Cyperus kyllingia, Striaga densiflora and Mereilea minuta. The main animal species found in the refuge are Gazelia (Chinkara), Hyena, Canis lupus (Indian Gray Wolf) and Vulpes bengalesis (Indian Fox).
How to Reach:
Baramati is well connected by road with major cities in the State. Baramati is 100 km from Pune by road. It connects to major highways via the road network. Baramati is also well connected by Rail Network to Pune via Daund Junction. Baramati has an airport (Baramati Airport) which is currently host to a Flying School. Baramati is considered to be one of the future domestic airports in the region. The runway was extended in length to accommodate larger aircraft and was built by Sigma Six Projects of Mumbai. The condition of roads in the city is very good and there is a ring road built around the periphery of the city.
